Experiments In Watercolour

This is a little corner of one of the mini abstracts in my watercolour sketchbook. I've mentioned before how therapeutic I find drawing or painting and playing with watercolours is a wonderful meditation. I am learning about how the paints behave with more or less water. And letting them seep into each other teaches me to relinquish control and to let the painting be what it wants to be.

Monday Movie - Man Up

I confess I've watched this film three times. It's so difficult to get a romcom right which makes it all the more impressive that this one is writer Tess Morris' first feature (after years of script reading and writing for a British teen soap). It took four years of development to come to the screen but was worth the wait. The pace is perfect and Simon Pegg and Lake Bell have great chemistry. It's also a great one to study as a scriptwriter as the dialogue is convincing, light and real. A perfect Monday treat.

The Old & The New

I love taking photos when little details catch my eye. I'll often spot something, snap it and then crop the picture or brighten it up using my phone to get feel of the image right. These two photos felt like they sat well together. I like the juxtaposition (posh word!) of the old and the new and the slightly ethereal look of the sunlight.

Skating & Creating

"Everyone is an artist until they stop playing. That’s all it is. Art is just play." - Ed Templeton

I was introduced to Ed Templeton's photography and art by an old friend who taught me a lot about how creative skateboarders can be. I love Ed's spirit and tenacity and the creative connection he has with his wife Deanna. This is why I was intrigued to see him featured in this trailer on the Huck Magazine website this week. A teacher, Kelli Watson, has created a documentary about the connection between skaters and art which is being launched later this month. It should be a good watch.

You only have to spend five minutes watching the skaters on the Southbank to understand their tenacity and singlemindedness. It makes complete sense to me that this partners perfectly with the creative mind.

Podcast - Ctrl, Alt, Delete

I don't know where I've been hiding but I've just discovered Emma Gannon's fabulous Ctrl, Alt, Delete podcast. On this evening's commute, I listened to #70, an interview with Melissa Hemsley, which was all about wellbeing, the joy of nutritional food and the benefits of meditation. An absolute treat. I'm excited to work my way through the other 90 episodes.
